Montagave Blanco ‘Héritage’ (Lot 237) starts off with that classic cooked agave and minerality you’d expect from a solid blanco—but then it pulls a sneaky little twist. This one’s been rested in Bordeaux wine barrels, which normally would make me run screaming into a pile of unscented bourbon barrels… because I don’t like wine.

But here’s the thing: it works.

There’s this dry, earthy edge that creeps in—like the tequila went on a European backpacking trip, read a few wine books, and came back cultured but still down to party. I usually avoid winey influence like I avoid group texts, but this? It hits.

There’s just enough wine character to give it personality without drowning the agave. You still get those bright, vegetal notes up front, but then it softens into something almost elegant. Think tequila that bought a scarf and suddenly started calling lunch “le déjeuner.”

By the second pour, I found myself saying “ooh la la” and unconsciously making that French “honh honh honh” sound with my nose up in the air. It’s weird. I don’t even know how that sound happens. But here we are.

This one grows on you, and before you know it, you’re defending French oak in casual conversation like you’re trying to impress a sommelier. I wasn’t sure at first—but by the end, I was in. Fully earned its four sips.
