Hiatus Tequila Blanco

Hiatus Blanco Tequila Review

The Polite Houseguest Who Stays Too Long

You ever meet someone who’s perfectly pleasant, remembers your dog’s name, and compliments your porch furniture—but somehow still feels like background noise? That’s Hiatus Blanco.

The nose kicks off promisingly with cooked agave. It’s there. Not shy, not bold—just… there. Like a handshake that’s neither firm nor floppy, just enough to say, “I exist.” First sip? Same vibe. That agave shows up again, and for a moment, you think this thing might have some backbone. Maybe it’s about to start telling jokes and show you it’s the life of the party.

But then minerality slides in like someone trying to merge onto the freeway at 35 mph. It’s present, sure, but you kind of wish it would either hit the gas or pull over. Pepper? There’s a dusting. Maybe. Like a pepper shaker that’s mostly full of salt. And is that… cinnamon? Possibly. Could also be the ghost of cinnamon. Or the memory of a cinnamon stick that died valiantly in a mug of tea.

Citrus? Eh, it waves from across the street. You’re not sure if it’s actually citrus or just someone wearing yellow.

I’ve returned to this bottle multiple times, like checking the fridge hoping something new appeared. And every time, Hiatus Blanco greets me like a friendly neighbor you don’t actually want to have a long conversation with. It’s earthy too—but in that way where I know it’s trying to communicate something deep and grounded, and I’m just not bilingual in dirt yet. I’m working on it.

To be fair, this isn’t a bad tequila. It’s clean. It’s sippable. It’s not lighting anything on fire (including your taste buds), but it’s not crashing your party either. It’s just… fine. And in tequila language, “fine” might be the harshest word of all.

Would I buy it again? No. Would I finish the bottle? Sure. Would I text my friends about it mid-sip? Absolutely not. It’s the background music of tequila—good enough that you don’t turn it off, but you’ll never remember the lyrics.
