G4 Throwback Reposado

Vanilla, Caramel, and a Curveball

G4 Throwback Reposado starts off like it’s about to read you a bedtime story. Vanilla, caramel, and cooked agave come in warm and cozy, like a stack of pancakes made by someone who loves you. You think, “Ah yes, I know this ride.” But then, halfway through the pour, the seat drops out and you’re like, wait… what?

That’s the dryness. It sneaks in after those dessert-y vibes and says, “Don’t get too comfortable.” It’s not bad, just unexpected. My taste buds were all set for something creamy and smooth, and instead this reposado politely declined the whipped topping and handed me a linen napkin.

You still get that underlying agave backbone, firm and steady like it’s been lifting cooked piñas for decades. And there’s something in the mid-palate that wants to flirt with citrus, but it never quite shows up. It’s like the blanco came to the party, then ghosted before saying goodbye.

This one’s aged for three months in both used American whiskey barrels and used sherry casks, which explains the balance. It’s sweet but not sticky. Dry but not dusty. There’s a roasted depth that keeps it grounded, even when your brain’s trying to decide whether it’s dessert or not.

Honestly, it’s really good. One of those reposados that makes you pause and pay attention. It’s not flashy. It’s refined, like a well-dressed introvert who surprises everyone with a great karaoke voice.
