Tequila Ocho Añejo Old Fitzgerald Potrero Grande Barrel Select

I chased this bottle like it owed me money—and it finally showed up
I’ve been eyeing this bottle like a kid staring into a candy store, except the store was closed… for what felt like a year. Seriously, the wait for this one felt like a cut scene from SpongeBob: “One Year Later,” and boom, the bottle finally shows up. Worth the wait? Let’s sip into it.
This special Añejo aged in Old Fitzgerald barrels comes out swinging with some pepper on the front and a definite bourbon influence—probably too much for some tequila purists. But I’m not mad at it. There’s a soft vanilla thread running through, and maybe, just maybe, a little kiss of anise right at the start? It’s fleeting, but it’s there.
Flavor-wise, it’s bold yet smooth. There’s heat on the tongue, sure, but no Kentucky hug, which is funny considering the bourbon barrels. It drinks clean and easy, and while it didn’t quite blow my boots off, it still strutted out of the glass with confidence.
Now let’s talk about the price, because whoa. I paid $149, and that felt steep. But I’ve seen this bottle going for $190, and at that price? I’d say pass. There are better bottles in that range unless you’re collecting or chasing every Ocho release.
To be honest, I thought this was going to be a grand slam, but it landed more like a solid double off the wall. Still, a very good bottle. And here’s the twist ending—The Widow Jane releases might’ve stolen the show. I didn’t see that coming.
Final Sip: A well-executed Añejo with bourbon flair. Not the showstopper I had hoped for, but it still earns its place on the shelf. Would I buy another? Probably. Would I fight over the last pour? Maybe.
